Coercing the young and available women towards a group of stalwart loyalists is a common cult technique. This is an example on a smaller scale regarding what happens in the Mormon polygamist communities. A relatively small group of loyalist 'good ol boys' get all the wives, leaving the marginal or unconnected members as outcasts. They end up feeling forced out and are known as 'lost boys'. They end up homeless, on drugs, or even killing themselves. The intended effect is the same - both the polygamists and the JWs want you to carry water for the big boys in the hope of a reward.

Is the WTS effectively 'pimping out' sisters?
by Simon ini can't remember the topic with the discussion about the talk where they suggested that sisters should only consider ministerial servants as potential marriage partners but think about the implications more.. are they trying to use the potential affections of sisters to enourage brothers to do more and work harder?.
isn't this a form of 'pimping out' the sisters by limiting their attention to the people contributing to them?.
it seems to cross a line to me but i guess it's not vastly different to "only marry another jw".. what do you think?.

the original bootleg album was "the basement tapes" recorded with the band after his motorcycle accident of the late 60's.

As long as they stay "The Basement Tapes". Last ones I heard Robbie Robertson tweaked and overdubbed them like they belonged to him or something. Clean up the tape hiss and move the volume up but please please please Robbie don't alter the music and become the George Lucas of classic rock. I'll have to check this one out.

why Jehovah's witnesses? not yaweh witnesses?
by purrpurr inthis i never understood, the publications say that gods name translated from hebrew is yaweh.
why add a whole bunch of letters and vowels that change the sound of the name completely?
i've often thought surely we would gain greater respect on the ministry if we used a name that is historically and verbally accurate?.

The letter "J" or the corresponding sound when it is pronounced in English does not even exist in Hebrew. Modern Hebrew had to create a new letter to correspond with the English "J" in the 20th century in order to be able to spell and properly pronounce foreign words. The sound of 'Jehovah' has to sound rather silly to Hebrew scholars. Maybe that was a minor part of the reason why the WTS inserted that name into the Greek Scriptures.

That's how I remember it. Constant reminders from the podium of the CO's visit like we were all children, the house with rubbish strewn all over the floor, and the stern parent is on the way home. I started to tune it out. What was this man going to do to me? I was already giving them a good portion of my hours every week. If he wanted more then he's an ungrateful little shit.

You Americans are the friendliest people I've met
by not bitter in........ well at least the ones i encountered on my recent holiday to orlando.
now i know that its a tourist destintion so everyone working in the hotels and parks are on their best behaviour.
but i have been to tourist towns here in the uk and europe but not one is on a par with you guys.. my husband and i haven't stopped talking about to anyone that wants to listen.

I can vouch for the general unpleasant nature of the former USSR. Those people are masters at sharing their misery and making sure you know it. Then they'll quote Pushkin and talk about the uniqueness of their national 'soul'. No thanks. Caucasians were alright though, and at least their cuisine is palatable.

As Albert Speer noted, history is going to be very disappointed by Eva Braun. She was just a provincial tart. No one had any real lasting impressions of her other than she was Hitler's sometime female companion. Had she survived it would have been unlikely she ever would have been prosecuted for anything.
